Here are three common behavioral-based interview questions and some do's and don'ts on how to answer them along with an example answer:


"Tell me about a time when you had to work under pressure to meet a deadline."


DO:

  • Be specific about the situation, including the deadline and the pressure you were under.

  • Describe the actions you took to meet the deadline and the outcome of your efforts.

  • Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answer.

DON'T:

  • Don't give a vague or generic answer.

  • Don't blame others or make excuses for any shortcomings.

  • Don't focus too much on the pressure and not enough on the actions you took.

Example: "In my previous job, we had a client project with a tight deadline, and the team was understaffed due to unexpected absences. As the project lead, I knew it was crucial to get the project done on time, so I reassessed the workload and prioritized the tasks that were most critical to meeting the deadline. I also reached out to some colleagues who were not part of the project team but had relevant skills, and they were able to help us complete the project on time. As a result, we met the deadline and received positive feedback from the client."


"Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult customer."


DO:

  • Provide specific details about the situation and the customer's issue.

  • Describe the actions you took to resolve the issue and any steps you took to prevent similar issues in the future.

  • Show empathy for the customer's situation and focus on the positive outcome.

DON'T:

  • Don't criticize the customer or speak negatively about them.

  • Don't focus too much on the problem and not enough on the solution.

  • Don't downplay the severity of the issue.

Example: "In my previous role in customer service, I had a customer who was frustrated because their order had not arrived on time. I listened carefully to their concerns, apologized for the inconvenience, and took immediate action to track down the shipment and provide them with regular updates. "Tell me about a time when you had to work with a difficult team member."


DO:

DON'T:

  • Don't speak negatively about the team member.

  • Don't ignore the conflict or minimize its impact.
